Wreaths, Table decorations and Garlands Sale

Our thanks go to Irene Rowe and Barbara Wilson who set up their own Christmas wreaths and garlands stall at our u3a yesterday. The arrangements were hand made by Irene who has very kindly donated all profits made from the sale to our Woodlands Collection

The coach for the Garden Visits Christmas Meal will leave Maghull Square at 09:30 on Friday the 2nd December.

Next week will be the last opportunity Group Leaders will have in 2022 to either pay in funds or put in a request for any cheques needed for January.  Treasury closed 13th of December. We re-open on the 10th of January.

We  have quotes for a two night stay at Cambridge Bar Hotel with  Airedale tours o  March 30th /31st  returning April 1st 2023.

Is a visit to David Parr’s arts and crafts  home ( he worked in co-ordination with William Morris amongst others) on the wonderful wallpaper designs which this house is decorated totally in.  Small extra cost .

Stramblers – Lunt Meadows 24 Nov

Despite weather warnings of heavy rain and strong winds, twenty stramblers assembled at The Punchbowl for today’s walk through Lunt Meadows. We set off along Lunt Road and soon took a footpath into fields, which followed the course of a brook, quaintly named “St Helen’s Gutter”. The brook leads to St Helen’s Well on the other side of Lunt Road which is thought to be 600 years old.

Architecture for Fun 19th December Trip

It has been necessary to change one of the venues for the above

After a journey by luxury coach from Maghull Square , leaving 9.45am and arriving in Preston at 10.30 – 10.45am we will make our first stop at Guru Nanak Gurdwara Singh Sabah Temple (a vast improvement on the previous Temple)

We will be given a talk on “All about Sikhs” ,”Search Gurbani” and “Sikh Encyclopedia” after which we may be offered a snack provided by the Temple , if not , we will visit a local pub for a sandwich etc

We will then go onto Vajravarahi Kadampa Meditation Centre (a Buddhist Temple) for 2.00pm where we will be given a talk on “Buddhism” and “Meditation”.

We will leave Preston at approx. 4.00pm reaching Square at 5.00pm

There will be no Line Dancing tomorrow.

From next week Irene Rowe will be selling table decorations and small wreaths for Christmas. All proceeds will be going to our Woodlands appeal.

Today a white car parked on Old Hall Lane was found to be obstructing the pavement. We ask all drivers who park on this road to remember to keep the pavement open for all pedestrians including those pushing prams or using wheelies. Many thanks for you cooperation.

Arrangements have been made to visit Preston on the above date

Luxury coach from Maghull Square , leaving 9.45am to arrive Preston 10.45am for an 11.00am start

Shri Guru Gobind Sikh Gurdawara Temple is the first stop where we will be given a talk on “Sikhism” followed by a vegetarian lunch at the premises.

We will leave approx. 1.30 – 1.45pm to move to Vajravarahi Kadampa Meditation Centre (a Buddhist Centre) for 2.00pm  where we will be given a talk on Buddhism and meditation

We will leave Preston at approx. 4.00pm to arrive back at the Square for 4.45 – 5.00pm

Tickets for ‘Betty’ at the Royal Exchange, Manchester are now ready for pick up at the Theatre Desk.

Philosophy Group are meeting at Kensington House tomorrow at 14:30.  Come along and try out this great group.

Our ‘Christmas Celebration Concert’ on the 13th of December is selling out fast; so far we have raised over a hundred pounds for Woodlands Hospice.

Our ‘Painting for Pleasure’ Group turned up trumps this morning with a wonderful display showing off their amazing talents. It was really good to see a return to Group Displays on a Tuesday.  Thank you to the group for their hard work.
