Our Walking Netball group continues to grow. Two more of our members are going on a Netball England Hosting Course at the end of January. Most weeks we have enough members to make two full teams. If you fancy joining us come and see Margaret Ashton at the Group Support desk on a Tuesday morning.
It is a really fun way to keep fit and although most of our members have played before we do have members who have never played netball. We play on a Friday morning at West Lancs College. We do share lifts so we may be able to sort a lift out for you if needed.
One of our members has just completed a Photography Course at West Lancs College and took these photos for us. Thanks Evelyn
On a huge night for the sport, England’s dramatic last-gasp win over hosts Australia in the netball final at the Commonwealth Games in April was voted sporting moment of the year. The netballers also claimed the team of the year gong, beating off competition from Europe’s Ryder Cup stars, the Ireland rugby team and the England football team.
Away from the elite level of the game, England Netball have been trailing a new version of the sport to appeal to women of all ages. Our Walking Netball Group is part of this trail.
Unlike the English Netball Team we didn’t win any awards but we enjoy ourselves every Friday morning at West Lancashire College.
If you are interested in joining us please contact Margaret Ashton on 0151 285 1817 or call at the Group Support Table on Tuesday mornings. Lifts can be organised from Maghull Square.
We now have our own personal trainer at West Lancashire College. Bec’s had us working on our defence moves today. The improvement by the end of our one hour session this morning was amazing. Walking Netball is a great to get the heart rate up and is good fun. If you want more details come to Group Support Desk on a Tuesday morning. Lifts are available we meet on a Friday 9.30 to 10.30
Everyone you tell that you are going to walking netball smile and then laugh. Little do they know how difficult it is not to run, but having said that it is still very good exercise. We meet at West Lancashire College in Skelmersdale and use their exc
ellent facilities also we have the help of their sports tutor. We start off with warming up exercises then move on to play 10 mins each way, this may not sound very much but I can assure you it is. What could be better than keeping fit and having fun as well. Cheryl Mercer. New members welcome.
Walking Netball resumes on Friday 29th January.
For further details come to the Group Support desk on a Tuesday or call Margaret Ashton on 285 1817
This group started 20th October and meet at West Lancs College on a Friday morning at 9.30 to 10.30. It takes less than 15 minutes to get there by car and there is plenty of free car parking. People are willing to give lifts so if you are interested come to the Group Support desk on a Tuesday morning or ring 0151 531 0207. Walking Netball is a slower version of the game; it is netball, but at a walking pace. The game has been designed so that anyone can play it regardless of age or fitness level.
Women the length of the country have begun playing the game of Walking Netball for the fun, laughter and camaraderie the social session brings, as much as the health benefits on offer.
Walking Netball will be starting on Friday 20th October at West Lancs College, 9.30 to 10.30. Members from Parbold and Aughton+Ormskirk U3A’s are joining us. This is a fun way to keep fit. Please come to the Group Support desk on a Tuesday morning or ring 0151 531 0207 for more details.
With the support of Netball England we are going to start walking netball sessions on a Friday morning 9.30 to 10.30 at West Lancs College in Skelmersdale (next to ASDA). Everyone is welcome, this is a fun way to keep fit. Some of our members have been on taster sessions and the feedback was very positive. One of the issues raised was that some people do not have transport to get to the college, this is not an issue as other members are willing to provide lifts. Please let me know if you are interested either at the coffee morning or by ringing 0151 531 0207.
There is still time to take part in a free tester session. The last taster session is taking place this Friday (19th May) at 9.30 to 10.30 at West Lancs College in Skelsmerdale. Come to Group Support desk on 16th May for more details. We are hoping to start this group in September, up to now 18 people have attended taster sessions and all agree it has been great fun and a good way to keep fit.
16 members joined together this morning to take part in our first taster session of Walking Netball, which was hosted by Netball England at West Lancs College. This was the first of three session, members can still join in on either 12th or 19th May or both dates. Walking Netball is a low impact form of sport, which is a good way of keeping fit as well as being lots of fun. The years were rolled back as we took part in a fun warm up session followed by a game of walking netball. Everyone really enjoyed the session and are looking forward to next week. Once the taster sessions are complete we will look to start again in September, the College will inform us what times are available, we will then complete a survey amongst the people interested to find the most suitable time. Stephanie from Netball England would be willing to support us on a part time basis and one of our members has been on a course which means she can host sessions.
If you are interested in joining us ring Brenda McKenzie on 0151 531 0207 or 07900525222 or come to the Group Support desk on Tuesday morning.
