Barmouth Walking Festival

This is not a U3A event but may suit individuals looking for a walking holiday. It is very suitable for single people as the organisers provide evening events which include:

  • Fish, chips and talk
  • Social Evening
  • Music Nights.
  • Quiz nights

The Walking Festival takes place 14th-23rd September and has been developed with the aim of encouraging visitors to explore these magnificent surrounds on foot- in the company of keen, experienced and knowledgeable local guides. Sunday Strollers – August

July had 18 members enjoying a pleasant stroll from Hall Road to Hightown.

We meet on the 3rd Sunday of every month.

August 18th is with Brian and Brenda Dickinson leading a walk around Stanley Park, when we will visit both football grounds, followed by lunch in the Palm House in Stanley Park. More details will follow shortly.   David Scott is hopefully going to lead the September walk around Port Sunlight.  The good news is that more members are now willing to take turns and lead one of the walks.  If you would be interested in joining the group or leading a walk please come to Group Support desk on a Tuesday morning or text 07900525222.

Dance Fit next session Friday 6th Sept

Due to lack of numbers as a result of holidays etc there will be NO Dance Fit sessions on a Friday afternoon until 6th September.  Monday morning sessions will continue.

Active Sefton have requested that a minimum of 14 members must attend the class for it to continue.  Last week 6 members attended the Friday session.  The Monday morning session has the required number attending, so will continue.

It has been decide to cancel the Friday class until 6th September, when hopefully the required number will be able to attend.  If you are interested in joining this class or you will be returning to the class in September please let Group Support know on a Tuesday morning or send a text to 07900525222

Sunday Strollers – 21st July

Sunday Strollers next walk is on 21st July.  We will meet at Maghull South (old station) in time to catch the 9.49 train to Liverpool.

We will change onto the Southport train at Sandhills and get off at Hall Road.  We should arrive at Hall Road at 10.30 appox.  If you are meeting us at Hall Road please let me know so we can look out for you. We will then walk down to the front and walk to Hightown train station were we will catch the Southport train to Freshfield.  We will then make our way to the Pinewoods pub and have lunch.  After lunch we will walk back to station and catch train back to Maghull.
Because we are having breaks this walk should suit all of our walkers and we have always had a good lunch at the Pinewoods Pub. They serve Sunday lunch and a variety of other meals and snacks.

Here is a picture taken on our February walk in Southport.  The weather on Sunday looks like it will be a lot warmer than that day with showers forecast at 1pm.  Hopefully we will be in the pub by then

 

 

Pedal Pushers Wirral Way

This year we have not always been lucky with the weather on a Wednesday, but last week we enjoyed a 15 miles ride along the Wirral Way.  We got the train  to Hooton and then rode back to West Kirkby.  The views were great and Dave IS looking at the views just in case you were wondering!!!!!

Nordic Walking Monday Evening

Monday Evening Nordic Walking Group were blessed with a sunny evening when walking last night.  The group continues to improve and now regularly complete a five mile walk in 1.5 hours.  Five of the group have agreed to go on the Nordic Walking Leaders training which is provided by Active Sefton later this month.  Most weeks we have up to 16 members taking part.  We returned to Lydiate on 1st April and have been able to do a different walk each week since that date.  The aim is to see how many different walks we can find.   Next week we are getting the bus to Halsall and walking back along the canal to Lydiate weather permitting.  On 8th July we have decided to do a shorter walk in Maghull and have a get together after.  Appropriate photos will be added to website.!!!!  watch this space. To join this group you do need to complete a free 4 hour training course run by Active Sefton.  Details can be found on their website or visit the Group Support desk on a Tuesday morning.  Poles are also available to borrow on each walk.

There is also a Nordic walk every other Monday morning more details are available from Group Support.

History for Fun meeting cancelled

History for Fun meeting on 21st June has been cancelled due to Kensington House not being available.  Law for Fun takes place on Thursday 20th June at Lydiate Village Hall 2-4pm.  There are places available if you would like to attend this group this month.  Please come to Group Support desk on Tuesday or text 07900525222 and speak to Brenda.
