New Day Trip
We will start our trip today by crossing the Menai Straits onto the Isle of Anglesey. Our first visit will be to the popular seaside resort of Beaumaris which together with all its’ attractions makes it an extremely popular destination. With its’ mix of Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian architecture and its’ great unfinished masterpiece, Beaumaris Castle, parts of which date back to 1294, it is a lovely place to visit. Stroll through the town, walk along the front and along the pier, admiring the wonderful views across the Straits to Snowdonia. There is a Gaol and a Courthouse you may like to visit. Good selection of shops, tea rooms etc. Then we will cross back to the mainland to Bangor to visit the fantasy neo Norman Penrhyn Castle. Originally built by Lord Penrhyn and now owned by the National Trust, it is built on the fortunes made from the Jamaican Slave Trade and the nearby slate Quarries. Interesting interior, lovely gardens, a small railway museum
highlighting the work done by the railway in the slate quarries. No expense was spared when building and designing the interior. Plenty of picnic sites and nice Cafe. For the more energetic some nice walks.

New Day Trip
It’s 90 years since the public won the right of way to visit and freely explore what have become our National Parks. Prior to this that right belonged solely to the Landowners and Gentry. To-day we will be visiting the White Peak District in Derbyshire. Our first stop will be in the lovely village of Castleton, home to the Blue John Mine, where the unique and beautiful gem stone is mined. It is beautifully situated with plenty of interest. Look our for small jewellery shops selling the unique Blue John. There is a lovely selection of morning coffee and lunch venues but bear in mind we will be having afternoon tea so leave plenty of room. After spending a pleasant morning we will be off to Whaley Bridge to join our family owned Judith Mary for a 2 hour
peaceful cruise on the stunning Upper Peak Forest Canal, which is carved out of the sides of the mountain, overlooking the River Goyt. Travelling through outstanding countryside, the Canal is higher than the railway in parts. During the cruise we will be served with our selection of sandwiches, cream scones and tea/coffee. Ending in New Mills, we can view Kinder Scout the highest plateau in the UK. Sit back, relax and enjoy.

New Day Trip
Starting our day in Skipton, the Gateway to the Dales. There is something for everyone here from canal boat trips, the ever popular market, lots of choice for eating and drinking, good shopping etc. Time to wander and explore, have a morning coffee and some lunch. If you haven’t visited before you will almost certainly make it one of your favourite places. Then we are off to Kettlewell, in Calendar Girl Country, for a light hearted afternoon at the Scarecrow Festival. Inspired by the imagination of the locals, guaranteed to bring a smile to your face, just what we need at the moment. Don’t forget all the lovely home made cakes served in the Village Hall and there is plenty of choice in other places for food and drink. Relax and enjoy, most importantly have a laugh and admire the clever productions.

COVID ALERT
One of our Members on the trip to Llandudno last week on Wed.8th June has tested 
positive for Covid. If you are feeling unwell it may be worth testing yourself just to make sure.
NEW DAY TRIP
We are off to visit Ena Mill in Atherton. This is a Grade 11 listed building and a former working Cotton Mill and has been successfully converted into a retail outlet. You name it and they sell it. You can spend a happy time browsing and buying. It has a fantastic range of goods including many well known brands at special prices, a lovely Cafe and provides you with plenty of time to browse and buy. Then we are off to Olympus Fish n Chips in Bolton. This Restaurant has an enviable reputation for the best fish n chips (other meals and veggie are available too). We can sit down, relax and enjoy a tasty two course meal with a cup of tea or coffee. So enjoy browsing, buying and your special meal and if time allows we will make a visit to world famous Bury Market, where you can buy your Black Puddings!

Thurs.26th May. Trip to Well Dressing at Tissington, one of the prettiest villages in Derbyshire. Widely regarded to be the best Dressings. Such talent from locals and today is Ascension Day so the Wells will be blessed. Eat here or wait till we get to the lovely Matlock Bath, which has plenty of places to eat and drink. Dep..8.30am Ret.6pm. Price £16. 2 seats have become available. Ring 526 4665 if interested.
New Day Trip
IT’S A DO IT YOURSELF DAY, WHERE TO? LLANDUDNO which has just been voted the second most popular holiday resort in the UK. The coach will transport us from Maghull to Llandudno and then you have a day to do your own thing. There is so much to see and do here, that a day is not long enough. Ride on the Great Orme Tram to the top of the Great Orme, spectacular views at the top and a cafe and other things to explore, or take the cable car to the top Ride on the hop on/hop off bus which will showcase Llandudno and take you in to Conway where you can view the ancient Castle. Use local buses to travel into Colwyn Bay which is only 20 minutes away or into Conway Town 10 minutes away. Back in Llandudno. there is one of the best Galleries in Wales here – the Mostyn Gallery with its’ wonderful displays and it also has a nice cafe. Speaking of which there is a wide choice for places to eat and drink. For the shopaholics there is plenty of interest on Mostyn Street and the Parc Retail Centre is just a few minutes away with a brand new style Marks and Spencer which has just opened here. Together with a lovely promenade to stroll along with good seating areas right along and a pier to explore, you can see that you will certainly enjoy a day here.

In our forward planning diary dates which have been on display for some time, the 22nd June was highlighted to keep free. However, this has now been changed to the 8th June to avoid a clash with another group. Details of the trip coming soon.

Please note this trip is departing from the Square at 8.30am. There have been a few cancellations because of Covid. (Look out there’s a covid about!) Therefore you may feel safer wearing a mask.
