Welsh Group – ‘Salem’

Test your welsh skills and find out about the  famous painting ‘Salem’ by Vosper

Capel y Bedyddwyr yn Cefncymerau , Llanbedr , ger Harlech ywSalem. Adeiladwyd y capel yn 1850 . Roedd yr arlunydd Vosper yn ymweld â’r capel yn aml pan ar wyliau yn yr ardal. Efallai Salem yw’r lle mwyaf enwog o addoli yng Nghymru ar ôl Sant Dewi.

Yn ‘ Salem ‘ , cymeriad canolog yw Siân Owen o Ty’n -y – fawnog . Mae hi’n cael ei ddangos yn cerdded i lawr yr eil tuag at ei sedd teulu . Yr amser ar y cloc, yw ychydig funudau cyn deg , yn dangos ei bod wedi cyrraedd yn hwyr , yn ystod y distawrwydd arferol cyn i’r gwasanaeth boreol ddechrau. Mae ei siôl llachar mewn cyferbyniad llwyr â’r wisg somber y bobl eraill sy’n bresennol . Mae wedi cael ei awgrymu bod y darlun yn gwneud sylwadau ar y pechod o falchder . Efallai ei fod wedi cyrraedd yn hwyr ar bwrpas er mwyn sicrhau bod y gynulleidfa uchaf ar gyfer ei fynedfa . Yn y plygiadau y siôl ar y fraich chwith Siân, mae llawer o bobl yn credu y gallant weld wyneb diafol .

Allwch chi weld e?

Change of meeting times in 2016

To fit in with a number of other groups, namely, Walking,  Architecture for Fun, and Discussion/Debating,  the Foodie Group have agreed to meet/go out on the third Thursday in the month from 2016.  Taking this approach means that members can attend all four groups if they want, as they will now meet on a different Thursdays in the month – a win win situation for all.

Spanish Tapas at Heathcotes in Preston

Foodie Group at Heathcotes

20 members attended a cooking demonstration at Heathcotes in Preston.  Members of the Foodie group and friends made their way to Preston on the train and enjoyed the delights of Spanish Tapas as well as sampling three different wines. This was followed by a lunch which included dishes from the demonstration.  This is the second time we have been to Heathcotes.  We will continue our round the world trip when we have lunch at the Indian Street food restaurant Mowgli in Bold Street LiverpoolWednesday 28th October.20151017_12171620151017_121816

Easy Riders

Last week a group of Easy Riders tackled our longest ride to date – all of 25 miles! We took the train to Hooton on the Chester line. The first section took us along the Wirral way past the preserved railway station at Willaston and on to Parkgate where we we stopped for a coffee break.

Suitably refreshed we joined the Wirral Way  and continued to West. Kirby.  – 15 miles covered so far. Two members had to leave here but the rest of us carried on after a leisurely break down at the coast.

We then joined the coast route through Hoylake, Moreton, Leasowe and finally New Brighton. The head wind on the last leg made it very hard work and we realised we wouldn’t get to the ferry in time so had a short break before pushing our bikes up the hill to the station.

Great day out. John Ramsden

Foodie group at Red House

foodie group having a meal in the Red House

The foodie group and friends decided to try the Red House for lunch.  Vinny has taken over as the chef and prides himself on using fresh produce.  He came out and introduced himself and made the group feel very welcome.  Thursday is steak day, so six of the group had the steak deal, which is 2 steaks and a bottle of wine for £15. The steak was served with onion rings, chips, peas, and tomatoes. So three bottles of wine on the table for starters!!!!.  Others tried fish and chips, lasagne, scampi, and hunters chicken.  One of the group tried syrup pudding and custard which was great, and large enough for most of of us to have a sample.  We finished up with coffees.  We split the bill which including tip was £10 each, which everyone agreed was very good value.

We asked about doing a meal for the Nordic walking group for Christmas, Vinnie suggested

  • sandwiches
  • sausage rolls
  • chicken wings
  • chilli con carne serves with coconut and lemon rice
  • scouse  with toasted bread rolls

This would cost £5 which includes a tip. So other groups could join in if they wished, some of the foodie group have already shown interest.  The manager would give us the whole lounge and there would be plenty of room for groups to split up if they so wished.  Just an idea. Brenda
