Frank Hornby: Trains, Cranes, and Dinky Toys

Frank Hornby

2013 marked 150 years since the birth of Frank Hornby, (1863-1936) who was of course the famous manufacturer of  Hornby Railways, Dinky Toys and Meccano and as many of you know lived in Maghull.

Recently Les French of the Hornby Trust  gave a fascinating talk  on the history of the Hornby empire and brought a number of very early and  rare working models for us to admire. From humble origins Frank Hornby rose to become one of the most famous industrialists of his age.  Les is keen to garner any personal reminiscences and memorabilia  of the Hornby family which older members of the community might be able to provide. If you can help  or know someone who can, please speak to Nigel Winchester who can put you in touch with Les.

There is a lot more about Frank Hornby at this website.
