Architecture for Fun 26th February at 12 noon

A visit to Lydiate Abbey where the history of the Abbey will be explained by David Russell followed by a talk on “Stonemasonry” by Ken Hughes , a local Stonemason, who will have several exhibits to show members

We will then move to the Scotch Piper where David Russell will explain the history of the pub and the area

We will then go inside the Scotch Piper to enjoy tea , coffee or a beer

Cost is £15 per member

Friday13th March @ Williamson Art Gallery, Birkenhead.

We are offered a tour of this lovely Gallery  It’s a bit off the beaten track so a coach may be required as its up hill.  Cost depending on numbers £13 return. Leaving Maghull Square 10.am. OR train to Birkenhead Central then walk up hill or take the 410 bus   to Slatey Road. to arrive at Gallery for 10.45 am

There is a Japanese Prints Exhibition, as well as Pre-Raphaelite Art from the  collection and an exhibition of the work of our resident artist Steve des Landes.      Donations welcome

Friday 13th  is available .  Booking is essential at u3a desk Tuesdays with Maureen or Jan.

Sefton Open 2026.

It’s that time of year again we can view the wonderful talent on display from our area in the gallery.  We will be visiting Atkinson Gallery, Lord Street, Southport. Train is the best way to travel ,we all have passes.   Shortly after Easter.     N.B Time and  Date TBC.

No fee but donations welcome.  Nice cafe on site.

Amended Date for February Wine Tasting

As there has been very little time to accept bookings after the resumption of activities at U3A , I have agreed with the venue and Jon Atkinson  that the tasting will now be on Wednesday  18TH FEBRUARY , again 2.15pm – 4.30pm  for a tasting of Spanish wines with the usual food

Can members who have booked , please either text  George on  07826 048379 or visit the Wine Tasting desk on Tuesday 20th January to confirm that this date is still suitable..

There are a number of places available for other members on this new date and a place can be secured by visiting the Wine Tasting desk from Tuesday 20th January and paying the required £15 fee

Supper Club Thursday 22nd January

Supper Club for January is at the Cricketers in Ormskirk 6pm on Thursday 22nd January. Last day for payment and choosing your menu is the Coffee Morning this Tuesday 13th. Those with their names down please come in and pay if you haven’t already and choose your menu. The menu choices need to be sent in to the Restaurant after this. We do have people on the reserve list so please let us know if you are unable to go on the 22nd January.

Theatre Group

Two tickets have become available for Inspector Morse, House of Ghosts starring Tom  Chambers, next Thursday 15th January, at the Playhouse Theatre, starting at 7.30pm. The tickets are £37.00 each

If you would like to purchase these tickets please come  to the Theatre desk at the coffee morning on Tuesday.

 

Wine Tasting 11th February 2.00pm – 4.15pm

After the successful return on 11th December  to the Lydiate Village Centre , Lambshear Lane , Lydiate , Liverpool L31 2LA (buses are available from Maghull Square and stop outside the centre)  when Jon Atkinson of Winetime gave us his expert advice on a selection of Italian wines which were accompanied by charcuterie and cheese platters , olives , biscuits etc

The next tasting will be on 11th February 2026 when a selection of Spanish wines will be offered with the usual food as listed above

Cost is £15 per member , please visit George and Jeff at the Wine Tasting desk on Tuesday morning to book a place , places are limited as we are only able to hire the small room
