Capesthorne Hall Macclesfield 28th May 2026

Arrangements are in hand to visit this impressive  building built to Neoclassical designs by William Smith and his son Francis in the 18th century including the Hall , Chapel and Chapel Gates and the Bridge crossing the lake they are all recorded in the National Heritage List for England as designated Grade 11 listed buildings

The journey will be by luxury coach (leaving at 8.45am) and there will be a guided tour from the main courtyard , through the Hall discussing all the history etc. (approx.1.5 hours) ,  Cost £38  (Food if required is extra as follows in the Lakeside Cafe with “cream tea” £6.50 , “soup and roll” £8.50 or “Sandwich Selection and Cake” £12.50 all inclusive of tea/coffee

After lunch members can view the other Grade 11 listed buildings and walk around the gardens and grounds

Wine Tasting – Thursday 14th May

A further tasting of classic French wines will be held at the Lydiate Village Centre on the above date from 2.15pm – 4.30pm supervised by Jon Atkinson

There will be 6 wines to taste and the usual charcuterie , cheese , biscuits , olives etc

The cost is £15 per member

Carvers Hill Estate Vineyard tour and tasting 2 wines with snacks (90 minutes) , Limeburn Hill Vineyard tour and tasting 3 wines with snacks (90 minutes) and Larkhill Vineyard tour , tasting 2 sparkling wines and 2 still wines with snacks (2 hours 30 minutes)

Visit to 1 Stonehenge and 2 Old Sarum ( first fortified around 400 BC) massive iron age ramparts , a Norman castle and foundations of a former cathedral – English Heritage. further visits to 3 Bath and Royal Baths , 4 Dyrham Park (a 17th century baroque house , formal garden and dramatic parkland _ National Trust and finally 5 a full day at Longleat including maybe the stately home , a drive through safari , maze , boat ride etc

There are only 5/6 places available and there are 1 standard single room , 3 executive single rooms and 7 twin/double still available
