The foodie group met yesterday for our final meeting of the year as the December meeting will be our Christmas meal. Once again we had lovely tasters made by group members and as you can see by the photo gallery they were demolished with rapid speed. This year we have a picnic in Brenda’s lovely garden, been to a couple of guest chef evenings at L20 restaurant where we sampled foraged food and a Nordic menu, and dined on tasters at the meetings again made by group members. These have included dishes made with pasta, rice and grains, pies and salads,
For the last part of the year we did a recipe swap. Group members brought along their favourite recipe and we then had a lucky dip and agreed to make whatever recipe we pulled out of the hat. We have had a variety of things prepared including a Weetabix loaf cake, Caribbean shepherds pie, shortbread and sausage parcels. Following discussions at yesterdays meeting we have decided to continue a similar format for the first part of 2019 and members suggested a variety of themes we could consider to cook at home and bring along to the meeting. we have decided on soup, slow cooker meals and one pot cooking for January, Jamie Oliver’s 5 ingredient recipes, vegetarian and meals from tinned produce in February, and tray bakes and scones for March. We have also pre-booked a dining cruise in Chester which is so popular we cant get a reservation until June, but having experienced this before it will be well worth waiting for!

So a very food filled year with this lively mixed sex group, which is still open to new members. You don’t need to be a cordon bleu chef, just enjoy having a go at cooking/baking something different and of course eating the fruits of your labours! We meet on the 3rd Thursday of each month at St James Church Hall. Details of the meetings can be obtained from group support desk at the coffee morning. —
