A day of style or should I say stiles???

17 members of the walking group set out today for Parbold. 5 members completed a short walk taking in the canal and local footpaths, and from the feedback at lunch had a very pleasant walk. Thanks Kath for leading this. The remaining 12 set out from the Fairy Glen for a walk, just under 7 miles, negotiating muddy paths, fields of wheat and barley, herds of cows, the odd sheep or two, a hazardous walk of a mossy plank over a stream and 25, yes, 25 stiles!

Ably led by Margaret Schumacher we negotiated all challenges, though some found the stiles more challenging than others!  There was mud a plenty, especially after being caught in a torrential downpour while we were in the middle of a field of wheat, but undaunted we trekked on, to be rewarded by warm sunshine, and only an occasional slip and slither through the remaining mud.Even our own “Teflon man” appeared to have come a cropper, though as he was the back marker regrettably no one witnessed it! Rising to the crest of a hill we had great views across the surrounding countryside and just managed to glimpse the Lake District on the far horizon. Everyone got back safely, in spite of having to walk the proverbial plank, and enjoyed a lovely lunch at the newly refurbished “Stocks at Parbold”, once divested of filthy boots and muddy over trousers.

Next walk is Thursday 7th September. Lunt Meadows circular. More details on this site later.
