Foodie Group 17th Nov. 2016

Today Denis introduced us to a range of delicious, wholesome, budget meals . Although supermarkets produce quick, cheap meals it is much healthier and often cheaper to produce your own and bulk freeze.
Denis gave us a variety of recipes covering cheaper cuts of meat, sauces, pasta, stir fry, and pulses. I particularly liked the open topped chicken pie. Cooked chopped chicken, can of condensed soup, leeks and pastry base.

Reasonably priced meats can be obtained from Ormskirk market,, farm shops and a firm called Wilkinsons (market stall). Morrisons sell turkey legs foe £2.50 -£4! It as suggested that we buy British meat as that is hormone free.
The internet is a good source of recipes e.g Mum’s net, Eating On The Cheap, 15 Batch Meals To Freeze, Love Food Hate Waste.
The latest gadget, a spiralizer, was praised by several members this enables vegetables to be cooked much more quickly.
Many thanks Denis for an entertaining and informative discussion.
The Foodie Group meets on the third Wednesday of the month, please check for venue. We have several ideas for the coming year.
