Pedal Pushers go solo

Today was the first regular solo ride of the Pedal Pushers cycling group now we have obtained “our wings” from Ross Adams (CTC /Active Sefton). All the group now have their own cycles so we are free to roam as we please!

Using Maghull Baptist Church as a start point and led by Bill Ashton, we accessed the canal at Hall Lane and had a very pleasant ride along the canal as far as Greens Lane in Aughton. Along the way we had sight of an array of barges making their way along the canal in anticipation of Canalfest, to mark the 200 year anniversary of the Leeds Liverpool Canal this coming weekend.

From here we travelled through lovely countryside to access the Cheshire Lines path at Lydiate. Using a circuitous route (Bill wanted to check the access path from the River Alt) we travelled back to Green lane in Lydiate and once more reached the canal tow path. Members of the group peeled off at appropriate points close to their homes from the tow path leaving just a couple of people to complete the route back to the Baptist Church. All agreed it was a lovely ride and we managed to avoid the showers which was a bonus. Plans are underway to start to access rides using Merseyrail…so who knows where that will lead us?
