Quarry Bank Mill – Thursday 26/6/25

Arrangements are in hand to visit the above Mill, built by Samuel Greg in 1784. In 1820 a new Mill was added which created space for more spinning and carding machines.  300 workers were operating 1000 spindles. New scutching room , steam engines and boiler room were added in the 19th century. There is Quarry Bank House , the Apprentice House, which housed as many as 90 children as young as eight years old packed in together, all available to visit. There are extensive gardens which incorporate natural and industrial features side by side to create drama and interest There is a cafe on site where members can purchase refreshments for lunch. BURNLEY TRIP 29/5/25

I have been advised by Queen Street Textile Museum , where we are having lunch that the sandwich choices are

Cheese and Red Onion

Chicken Salad

Turkey with Stuffing

The sandwich can be on “wholemeal roll” or “white bread”

Members are to text or call George on 07826 048379 to advise which sandwich they want and whether they want wholemeal roll or white bread

Trip to Burnley 29/5/25

AFF has managed to add a further visit on this trip (see previous post for original detail)

We are to visit The Singing Ringing Bell then Queen Street Textile Mill Museum where we will  tour this steam driven mill (the only one in the UK) after which we will have soup and sandwich lunch at the museum , we will then go onto a National Trust property , Gawthorpe Hall where members can take a self guided tour

Cost is £40 for NT members and £47 for non NT members
