Liverpool u3a are running a quiz and are looking for attendees. Are you interested?
I am, David Coss, the chairman of the Liverpool U3A.
I am writing to you regarding the Network Fun Quiz which we are holding in the Adelphi Hotel on Wednesday, 24th May at 1:30pm. We are charging only £4 admission and this covers the tea and coffee refreshments, the prize money for the winning table and the hire of the room.
It is going to be run along the lines of our previous Network Quizzes which were held before Covid struck. They proved to be very enjoyable afternoons and gave all the members of the neighbouring U3As the chance to meet, chat and get to know what great ideas might be knocking about which one U3A is using to their benefit, while others haven’t even known about – a benefit to all U3As and, in the end, to the organisation as a whole.
Will you please pass this information on to your members and ask, those of them who are interested in attending the quiz, to either phone Marion Carson on 0151 427 0175 or email her at by the 10th May, as she has to give the hotel a fortnights notice so they can ensure that everyone present will be comfortably seated and, of course, there will be enough refreshments to go round.
Join Flicks and Friends on the 18th of April at the Plaza Cinema, Waterloo for a showing of ‘the Book Shop’. Doors open at 12:15 with the film commencing at 13:00. Click on the poster for more details

History for Fun will be holding a talk on ‘Rock and Roll’ at Kensington House on the 21st of April at 14:30. There will be live music supporting the talk.
Our Annual General Meeting will be held at 10:00 at the Maghull Baptist Church, Hall Lane on the 16th of May 2023. All members are invited to attend and we are really hoping that we can match or even top the great attendance figure of last year!! Please ensure you bring your current membership card with you as this will be needed to gain entry.
Sadly, we did not receive any nominations for new Committee Members which means that the responsibility for the u3a will remain with the current Committee. We had hoped to bring new blood to our team this year and it causes a degree of worry as regards the future of our u3a. In two years time (and it’ll soon fly) nine members of our Committee will have to take a year’s break leaving us with a non functioning Committee unless new members come forward. We were in a precarious position in February 2022 and I would hate to find us in a similar position again. Please think about what you can do to help secure our u3a’s future; you can join the Committee at any time during the year. No need to wait for the next AGM! We really need you.
Our renewals programme is going well with over half of our members already having renewed. We are hoping that all members will have renewed by the 31st of March as their current membership will no longer be valid from that date and they will not have the protection of the Third Age insurance policy.
I’d like to thank all the members who have given their time to helping out with renewals during the past few weeks, without you we could not have done so well. From the table setters, the scribes, the counters, the Treasury team and the tea ladies, who kept us supplied with coffee in an initially cold Sanctuary, to you the members who came and showed us your commitment to our u3a; together we made a great team.
Thank you to all those who have renewed via their groups. Individual membership renewals will start next Tuesday in the Sanctuary. If you have printed and completed your form please bring it with you. Please bring a cheque made out to Maghull and Lydiate u3a for £12.00 if you can. We do accept cash but cheques are a bit easier to keep track of.
Age Concern Monthly Movie – on the 7th of March the movie ‘Six Minutes to Midnight’ will be shown at the Plaza Cinema in Crosby. Entry is free but they are always glad of any donations. Doors open at 12:15 and the film starts at 13:00
Advance notice that a six day break to Dorset will be available for booking next Tuesday. Look out for the relevant information and flyer in the next few days.
Membership Renewals – Membership renewal information and form have now been sent out to all members who have email.
Don’t miss The Duke which will be showing next Tuesday 7th of February at the Plaza Cinema. This very funny film tells the story of one man’s battle to find common sense in the world. Jim Broadbent stars as the man who took things into his own hand with hilarious consequences.
