Weld Blundell to Maghull 16/11/25

Fifteen strollers met at Maghull Station for today’s walk in ideal conditions as the rain and wind from Storm Claudia had thankfully left us. We took the bus to the Weld Blundell and set off along Pilling Lane. It was quite mild with no wind and plenty of sunshine. We crossed the canal bridge by the Mersey Motor Boat Club and followed the lane round to Punnell’s Lane. This took us down to Altcar Lane, which we crossed into Carr lane. We reached the Cheshire Lines path at the site of the old Lydiate Station and followed the path for a mile.  We then took the path alongside Maghull Brook and passed the “1777” farm building into Green Lane. This took us to the Green Park Estate and a path along Westway to the canal. We followed the towpath past the Shop Lane bridge and under the Red Lion Bridge. Here, there was a discussion on the merits of the Poppy Grange apartments facing the canal. Passing under Northway, we came to Maghull Cricket and Football grounds before reaching Hall Lane swing bridge. We passed Hall Lane Park and reached the footbridge at Bridge Lane. Crossing the bridge brought us to Rutherford Road, Station Road and back to our start point at the Station.

Thanks to Brian for arranging, recce-ing, re-arranging and leading the walk. See you all in February.
