Meols to New Brighton
27th September 2025

This month we had planned to do a walk in Yarrow Valley Country Park. However during the recce it was noted that the ground was quite wet and slippery even though it hadn’t rained for a few days. It was decided that the walk could only go ahead if there was a prolonged dry period prior to the walk. Last Saturday’s torrential rain put paid to that so plan B was adopted.

23 walkers met and Central Station to catch the train to Meols from where we would walk down to the promenade and head towards New Brighton.

Bob led the walk as Anne had to pull out at the last minute due to illness.

The weather was perfect, blue skies and lovely sunshine. The group had a coffee stop at the Green Hut, which was a welcome break.

During the walk the group were able to see what looked like a galleon sailing by some distance from the shore. This turned out to be the Spanish Galleon, Andalusia, which was making its way to the Albert Dock. The ship is a replica of the Spanish galleons which sailed the world’s oceans between the 16th and 18th centuries.

The ship is 55 metres long and 6 decks high. When under sail it has seven sails made of almost 1,000 square metres of material.

At Leasowe beach some brave, open water swimmers were seen. I believe all members of our group were glad they were walkers and not swimmers!

The walk ended in New Brighton with everyone agreed that it had been an enjoyable day.

Thank you to Bob for leading the walk at very short notice.

The next walk will be on October 23rd around Eastham Woods and the Dibbinsdale Nature Reserve,a walk we have done before but this time the plan is to do it the other way round.
Further information nearer the time.
