Trentham Garden Estate

A visit has been arranged for Wednesday 22nd April 2020 to Trentham Gardens, and shopping village and one of the largest Garden Centres in the country,  Our day ticket will allow us to wander in and out of the gardens and village.  The Italian garden planting is designed within the historic framework of Sir Thomas Barrys’ original Italianate Garden of the 19th Century.  It has one of the largest contemporary perennial plantings in Europe.  The upper flower garden has been restored and beautifully laid out.  You can take a stroll around the mile long lake or maybe take a boat ride.

The shopping village is a destination to please everyone !!  You can browse around amazing timber lodges with a friendly village atmosphere. There are restaurants, cafes and a massively impressive Garden Centre – this should be a wonderful day out.

Brookhouse Mill Denbigh and Tweedmill

 Wednesday, 23rd October 2019.  a trip has been organised  to TweedMill in North Wales outlet centre which has been a favourite in the past.  There will be time for tea/coffee and maybe a little shopping as well.  After, we will travel the short distance to Brookhouse Mill for our 3 course lunch.  Brookhouse Mill was formerly a 17th century flour mill and has been lovingly restored, but it has not lost its character and charm. It’s set in picturesque rural surroundings.     Cost £27

Yorkshire and Harrogate Christmas markets

A short break has been arranged to Yorkshire and the Harrogate Christmas markets on Friday, 15h November 2019.  Leaving Maghull Square at 9.30am we will journey first to Skipton.  The traditional market town located on the Leeds-Liverpool canal.  We will have time to look around this charming town. We re-join the coach and take a scenic drive into Yorkshire and the pennies to Wetherby and our hotel.  The Mercure Hotel, Wetherby is located close to the centre of this ancient market town and is very comfortable.  We stay here for  2 nights on a  Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis.

On Saturday 16th November will visit nearby Knaresborough, another charming town. Set above the Rive Nidd valley with its imposing 14th century ruined castle located in the town centre. The views over the valley and the bridge are beautiful. We return to Wetherby and the hotel.  The rest of the day is to be spent here as the weekend long Christmas market is being held.

On Sunday the 17th November,  after breakfast we check out of the hotel and make our way to Harrwood House.   We will have time to enjoy exhibitions of contemporary art, rare Bird Garden, farm and grounds. Later we will return via Howarth and Bronte country..We return home expecting to be back in Maghull at 5pm approx.  the cost of this tour will be  £199 per person (£40 single supplement).  see more information at the garden visits table  on Tuesday coffee mornings.

Garden visits Christmas meal

Gardening visit group have arranged a Christmas lunch for Wednesday 11th December 2019.  Our first visit will be to Barton Grange garden centre for a bit of festive inspiration.   This is a lovely garden centre with plenty of ideas to put you in the Christmas spirit.   Later we will journey to our  “Mystery”  Christmas lunch venue, as most of us like a surprise !!  The venue is set in beautiful surroundings and countryside.   It is a three course meal with a choice of starters, mains and a assiette of Christmas desserts, tea/coffee and mince pie.

Derwen GC and Dingle Gardens

On Wednesday 10th July 2019 our first visit will be to Derwen Garden Centre, Welshpool. It’s the finest independent garden centre in the country and run by the Joseph family.  It has a restaurant with a large indoor shopping area and a farm shop which prides itself on its finest quality meats, cheese and vegetables. We can also visit the award winning themed gardens from the RHS Chelsea flower show.  The family have created their own themed gardens to give visitors the Chelsea experience. A Celtic garden, Italian garden, Mediterranean, oriental garden to name but a few.

In the afternoon we will travel the short distance to Dingle Gardens. This garden was created by Barbara and Roy Joseph within the beautiful mid Wales rolling hills and is an  Internationally acclaimed RHS partner garden. The garden is especially well known for it’s unusual planting.  The stream fed lake and huge array of plant species make this sheltered dingle a haven for all types of wildlife.  This is a truly beautiful garden and offers an ideal day out. Tea/Coffee is free and you can help yourself. Both Derwen Garden Centre and Dingle Gardens & Nursery are owned by the Joseph family.

Garden Visits – Plas Cadnant

A visit to Plas Cadnant, Anglesey and The Hidden Gardens Wednesday,1st May 2019.  In1996 work began on the restoration of the historic garden and grounds, home of the Price family since 1804.  In the visitors centre you can learn about the history of Plas Cadnant,  going back to the Iron Age. The picturesque valley is a plant persons paradise, with a walled garden, waterfalls and much more. There is also a traditional tearoom serving homemade light lunches, scones and cakes served with silver pots of tea or  freshly brewed coffee.

We will first stop at the lovely garden centre “Fron Goch” to have a look around or be tempted from its award winning restaurant then travel to Fron Cadnant.

Cost £23 including Tea/coffee and piece of Lemon drizzle cake.

Biddulph Grange Garden NT

A visit to Biddulph Grange Garden NT Staffordshire has been arranged for Wednesday 10th April 2019.  This amazing Victorian garden was created by James `Bateman for his collection of plants around the world. A visit takes you on a global journey from Italy to the pyramids of Egypt, a Victorian vision of China and a re-creation of Himalayan glen. The garden features a collection of rhododendrons and the oldest surviving golden larch in Britain from China in the 1850’s.  There is a tearoom selling wonderful made on site food and a gift shop.

Our first stop is a visit to High Legh garden centre in Knutsford maybe for a tea/coffee and a look around and then onto Biddulph Grange garden.
