Harrogate Autumn Flower Show

Harrogate Autumn Flower Show, Friday 16th September 2022, held at Newby Hall and Gardens Yorkshire. The Autumn Flower Show offers an amazing array of autumn blooms and plants by specialists growers. it also includes access to Newby’s award winning gardens and spectacular floral installations in the stately home.  The show is regarded as Europe’s premier autumn gardening event. With so much to see and do, Harrogate Autumn Flower Show has everything you need plan, plant and enjoy the perfect outdoor space. There is a wide range of catering at the show including “grab and go” food outlets.. This should be a enjoyable and great day out.  Cost £33 payment by cheque please to Maghull and Lydiate U3A  (this includes entrance to Newby hall and gardens).

Hutton -in-the- Forest (Cumbria) & BeetonNurseries

A Garden Visit on Wednesday, 3rd August has been arranged to Hutton-in-the-Forest (Cumbria)  The first known historic reference to Hutton – in- the -Forest was in 1292 when King Edward 1 visited. The present owner Lord Inglewood who lives today at Hutton with his wife Cressida and their family.  The house is surrounded by spectacular gardens and grounds which were laid out in the 17th century.  The walled garden has a beautiful flower garden with herbaceous plants, annuals and roses. Splendid Topiary restored in the 19th century. The lower garden has ponds and a wild flower meadow. There is a woodland walk featuring many mature hardwood trees some more than 200 years old. They have a tearoom serving hot and cold meals, cakes etc, tea/cofee.

On our way we will stop at Beetham Nurseries for a comfort stop and maybe a morning tea/coffee if you wish.   Cost of trip  £27   Leave Maghull Square 8.30am and Return Maghull Square 6pm approx

BODNANT GARDEN AND TWEEDMILL

A garden visit to Bodnant Garden National Trust has been arranged for

Wednesday,15th June 2022. Set in the gentle hills east of the River Conwy, across the river to the Mountains of Snowdonia.  Undoubtedly, Bodnant Gardens looks spectacular throughout the year. They have a National collection of Asian magnolias and rhododendrons, some more than a century old. The gardens most famous feature is the stunning, yellow cascade of the Lamburnum Arch – hoping it’s still flowering for our visit. Bodnant Garden is the perfect place for a wonderful and enjoyable day out for everyone.  There is a tearoom and gift shop..

We will first stop at Tweed Mill, St Asaph for time to look around and maybe for morning tea/coffee.  Cost of trip      Non National Trust members  –  £25

Cholmondeley and Nantwhich

A visit has been arranged for Thursday 19th May 2022 to Cholmondeley Castle Gardens in Cheshire.  We will first visit Nantwich for a browse and may be a morning tea/coffee.

The Cholmondeley family has owned Cholmondeley since the 12th century. Cholmondeley Castle Gardens one of Britain’s finest gardens.  Whatever the season, within the garden there are always plants and trees in flower, including magnolia, azalea, rhododendrons and many other shrubs.  One of the highlights are the beautiful old trees – giant Cedars of Lebanon, oak and lime.  There is a tea room for light lunches and cakes etc. tea/coffee.

Bodrydden Hall and Grosvenor Garden Centre

Bodrydden Hall and Grosvenor Garden Centre Wednesday,27th April 2022

The first stop will be the Grosvenor Garden Centre, we will have time for morning tea/coffee and a look around the beautiful plants and gifts this garden centre has to offer.  We will then travel to Bodrydden Hall, North Wales a most beautiful, stunning Grade 1 listed Stately home which has remained in the same family for 500 years steeped in both history and beauty.  This being the home of Lord Langford and his family.   The hall boasts of over several hundred acres of gardens, parkland and woodland, so there is plenty to explore.  There is also a tearoom selling light refreshments.

RHS GARDEN – BRIDGEWATER

A visit has been arranged for Wednesday 9th March 2022 to RHS Bridgewater. The former site of Worsely New Hall in Salford, is a heritage landscape that’s been transformed into a RHS garden.  Opened in 2021, RHS Garden Bridgewater is the 5th RHS garden and one of the largest and most gardening project in Europe.  Landscape architect, Tom Stuart-Smith created the masterplan and fantastic Bridgewater team, alongside award winning garden designers, have brought the garden to life.  Bridgewater also has a cafe overlooking Victoria Meadow and offers seasonal food hot & cold, tea/coffee etc.     We will also visit Bents garden centre, Warrington for a browse and hopefully get some “spring inspiration ” its a fantastic garden centre, and maybe time for a morning tea/coffee.  This should be a wonderful day out. Our first garden visit for this year 2022 !!    Cost of trip. £20 – payable by cheque please.

Garden visits – Christmas lunch

We have arranged a 3 course Christmas lunch including tea/coffee for Wednesday, 1st December 2021 at Brookhouse Mill, North Wales. We will first visit Tweed Mill for some Christmas inspiration and then onto our Christmas Lunch.

Garden Visits – Notice

Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus [COVID19] our trips to Trentham Gardens Wed. 22nd April and Wentworth Castle Gardens Wed.13th Mayl is cancelled.  If you have booked and paid in full or paid a deposit do not worry, all payments are recorded against your name and as soon as there is an opportunity you will have a refund or it can go towards a new trip when we return.    Take care, be safe and see you all soon.

 

Constable Country – Spring holiday

4 nights/5 day holiday to Suffolk and Essex.  Wednesday, 1st April 2020 and returning Sunday 5th April 2020. Departing from Maghull Square at 8am  On our way down we will stop at  Anglesey Abbey N/T Jacobean-style house with gardens and a working watermill.  From here we continue our journey  to our 4 star hotel near Colchester, where we will stay here on a  DBB basis until Sunday 5th April.

We will be exploring Constable country with an official Constable guide who will accompany us on the coach. There will be time at East Bergholt, Dedham and Sudbury.  We will be visiting Beth Chatto Gardens.  Beth Chatto, OBE, is an award-winning plantswoman,  I’m sure you will be inspired by her planting.  We will also visit Laverham, England”s finest medieval village, Sutton House N/T  and Helmingham Hall Gardens.
