NEW DAY TRIP

Well here it is Christmas Lunch time! Where has the year gone? Starting our day at the Trafford Centre which has a world renowned reputation for shopping, dining etc. Marks & Spencer is opening a brand new store here late November so we will be some of the early visitors. Plenty of interest and a chance to get those last minute Christmas presents and edible goodies.  Then we are off to the 4*Mere Court Hotel in Knutsford, an Edwardian Country house, set in 7 acres of grounds. Originally a wedding present but now converted into a luxury Hotel/Conference Centre.  Here we will have a 3 course Christmas Lunch, tea/coffee followed by an afternoon of entertainment. So we can sit back, relax and enjoy all the music we know.

NEW DAY TRIP

St.Helens glass is famous all over the world (think Pilkingtons). Dedicated to this world famous town and its’ products, is The World of Glass Museum, which has just undergone a l million pound refurbishment and is now ready to invite visitors to return and see the result.  We will have tea/coffee on arrival and then a guided tour of the property to see all the interesting parts and products of this Museum.  We will also have a glass blowing demonstration which will be followed by lunch.  We will then visit the family owned Garden Centre, Whittakers in Prescot, which has been purpose built and was opened in April of this year. Lots of products to browse and with its’ Christmas Decorations displays, should prompt us to think about buying presents and stocking fillers. In addition, there is the Palm Court Cafe where you can have tea/coffee/cakes

New Day Trip

To-day we are off to Wales, to be more precise Snowdonia, with its’ wonderful scenery. We will start our day with a visit to the Llanberis Slate Museum, where we will  have a demonstration of Slate splitting, there is also a Museum, Quarrymens’ cottages to visit, which have been moved brick by brick from their original place and rebuilt on site.  There is also a short film show, 2 Cafes, souvenir shops and craft outlets. Welsh Slate is much admired and has been exported all over the world.  Many roofs boast of it.   For lunch you can visit either the 2 on site Cafes or go into Llanberis where there is plenty of choice. After lunch we will travel on the narrow gauge steam railway on a journey which takes about an hour. Travelling round the edge of Lake Padarn, which traffic can’t access, we will see the amazing Snowdonian views which should by then be in all its Autumnal Glory.

New Day Trip

We are visiting Elsecar Heritage Centre, a living history centre set within the attractive l8thC village of Elsecar which is in South Yorkshire. Dating back to the l700’s, the whole valley was once owned by the Earls of Fitzwilliam of Wentworth Woodhouse. Today it has a Visitor Centre (You can book a guided tour £6 not included) where there are displays of the history of the site and a film show.  There are also shops, a museum, studios, tea rooms etc. For the energetic there is access to the reservoir and nature reserve. After an interesting morning we will make our way to the Wentworth Garden Centre to have some lunch. We will then be visiting Wentworth Woodhouse, owned by the Fitzwilliam family. They made their money from coal. It has a longer frontage than Buckingham Palace and is one one of the largest homes in Europe. Used for filming Victoria, The Crown, Downton Abbey etc. and most recently Kate Winslet & Hugh Grant have been filming. We will have a guided tour of the property, visit the garden, see the Camellia House where £9million has just been spent restoring it. We will finish with tea/coffee/biscuits in one of the State Rooms. The National Trust has an interest in developing this property and there is a small reduction for NT members.

NEW DAY TRIP

It’s back. Lytham Annual 1940s Festival Weekend.  Set up on Lytham Green on the sea front you will find a marquee with entertainment, fashion shows, a licensed 40s bar etc.  A display of war time vehicles, vintage traders, living history displays etc.   Then don’t forget to visit the Town Centre where many shops are dressed for the occasion. Clifton Square will host music and dance. Plenty of interesting activity to take us back to the l940s. Plenty of places to eat/drink. So why not join us for a day of reminiscing, displays, parades,  vintage fashion shows etc. You might like to dress up in your favourite l940’s outfits.

Day Trip Reminder

Wed.-17th May . Be up before your breakfast to join the Coach departing from The Square at 8.30am. We will be visiting the ancient town of Kendal and onto Lowther Castle currently exhibiting 10,000 ceramic daffodils. 

New Day Trip

We will start our day with a visit to the affluent and attractive Town of Wilmslow in Cheshire. Part of the Golden Triangle & home to some of our footballers. Browse the boutiques and shops. Look out for designer bargains in the Charity Shops. Time for coffee. Then we are off to Quarry Bank Mill, once owned by the Greg Family. Discover what it was like to work in a busy Cotton Mill and take a guided tour of the Apprentice House where the child pauper workers lived. Discover how it compares to the lavish home of the Greg family. There are lovely gardens and  a visit to Styal Village shows how other workers lived. Styal is still a thriving community. For the more energetic there are lovely walks along the River Bollin. With a choice of 3 places to eat and a shop to browse, it is an interesting place to visit.

DAY TRIPS SHORT BREAK

What could be nicer than a late October trip when the Countryside is at its’ best in this lovely Autumnal Season and it is the start of the Festive Season breaks?
