Membership subscriptions for 2021 are now due.
Nb. only ‘paid up ‘ members will be able to access the AGM on May 4th
You may be wondering why we are asking you to pay even though the groups have been unable to meet in 2020 and ongoing into this year?
Even though we have been locked down, Maghull and Lydiate U3A has still been required to make payments to the Third Age Trust to cover the cost, for example the TAM magazine. The memberships fees have been capped at £6 for the last 3 years and 100% of that amount has been paid to the Trust, meaning that last year Maghull and Lydiate U3A had zero income. Of the 958 members we had in 2019, one third of those did not renew their membership due to the sudden lockdown. Despite this we were still able to cover the costs required by the Third Age Trust.
However, the committee have now decided that to continue to cover outgoings, the fee for 2021/22 will increase to £9 per person. I’m sure you will agree this is still exceptional value for money. We look forward to the activity groups restarting soon in line with the easing of the lockdown, and some other groups are continuing to meet via Zoom. Members are required to have an up to date membership to be covered by insurance.
Until we can safely open the coffee mornings, membership renewals should be paid by post, including a stamped addressed envelope for the return of your new card to 86 Claremont Avenue, Maghull L31 8AL. Forms can be found in the document section of the website, use the drop down box to Membership forms and follow the link from there. Please be aware even though this says New Membership, you will retain your current membership number. If anyone has issues (e.g. no printer/computer) contact me as we will be able to find a solution.
