Sefton council – 24th March

Dear partners.

I wanted to keep you updated on developments in relation to our response to Covid-19.  In yesterday’s daily press conference the government announced that local authorities will be asked to  support the most vulnerable in our communities with the distribution of food to those most in need

Tier 1 of vulnerable residents are those as identified by NHS England, who will be receiving a letter in the coming days.  They will be supported on a city-region/ Merseyside-wide level.

Tier 2 of vulnerable residents, not within tier 1, but who are known to the council, will  be supported by Sefton Council and an army of volunteers, as co-ordinated by Sefton CVS.

Anyone in tier 2 who feels they need extra support during this time will be asked to contact our contact centre, or information is available on our website here https://www.sefton.gov.uk/miscellaneous-pages/support-during-covid-19.aspx

Information for anyone who wants to sign up to volunteer in this effort  is available here   https://www.sefton.gov.uk/miscellaneous-pages/volunteering-during-covid-19.aspx

I’m sure you can appreciate there has been a significant increase in the number of calls  being handled by our contact centre, and we are looking to redeploy staff from other areas of the council to support the contact centre. I would ask for you to help redirect local people to other channels wherever possible, and we ask for residents to please be patient if they do call us.

I hope this update has been useful for you

Many thanks, – Sean McCarten
