Cold and crispy walk to kick off 2017 season.

The first walk of the 2017 season took place this morning. 23 walkers and 2 dogs set out on a cold crispy morning to walk the Lydiate loop. 12 walkers opted for the longer route (approx 7 miles) led by Alan Carr, who walked from Lydiate to Maghull along the `Cheshire lines footpath, circling back to the canal at Melling, and continuing the loop back to our starting point. The remaining 11 ( and the 2 dogs) opted for the slightly shorter 5 mile route led by Judith Jones, taking the same route but missing out the loop to Melling. Taking in canal paths, fields and tracks we were blessed with ideal weather for walking, and met up again only 10 minutes apart at the Running Horses where a very sociable lunch was taken. I think it’s safe to say that splitting the walks to provide two options was a great success, with all walkers (and the dogs) enjoying their chosen route. Thanks to Alan and Judith for leading the walks.

The next walk will take place on Thursday 2nd February, meeting at Stocks Tavern, Parbold for  10:30 start. 2 routes will be available. See noticeboard for more details.

  1. I really enjoyed the longer walk today. The weather was really nice, crisp with clear blue skies and sun, with frosty trees and grass. Perfect. My only regret was not being able to stop for a beer and a pub meal. Thanks to the leaders. Looking forward to the next walk.
